Stand tall, wear a crown and be sweet on the inside ...

Just like a pineapple! 🍍

One of my favourite fruits and favourite inspirational quotes! Winning x 2
It's  been a year between posts, life gets crazy busy.. blah, blah, blah.

Nevertheless, I want to share some enthusiasm about growing your own food, with minimal effort.

All you have to do is procure a pineapple, twist the crown off and remove any excess flesh. This is mainly to avoid any rotting.

Pull off some of the bottom leaves to expose root nodules. This one had some that were very well developed. Other pineapples I have used were just white bumps.

Now, some people put it in water to establish the roots, others plonk it straight into some soil. Two years ago, my students and I had success with planting directly into pots and later into the cropping paddock.

I have chosen to put this baby on my kitchen windowsill to watch the roots grow and also because we have a darling fur baby that likes to eat my gardening projects.

It certainly lifts my mood to see it when I walk into the kitchen.

Even better that I am recycling a salsa jar at the same time. Happy days!

On a slightly related tangent - when I was little, I complained to my dear Dad that no one gave me any flowers like TV ad where boys would give some to girls who wear Impulse spray deodorant. In typical weird and warped Dad humour, he said, "Never mind darling, I'll bring you a pineapple instead."

Stand tall, put on your crowns and be sweet inside, y'all!
