Reflection on getting older..

Oh dear...

I fear I am turning into a fuddy duddy!

The first sign was quite a few years ago, perhaps it began after I finished high school and started working full time, or maybe after I had my first child. There was a shift in my television viewing habits.. I began to realise that I was no longer hooked on watching soaps like Home and Away or Neighbours- something I never dreamed I would hear that coming out of my mouth!

When I was younger I used to lament at how long my parents used to hog the tv watching news,  for an hour and a half! When the music on the radio stopped for regular news breaks I used to get very irritated- I was  not really interested in current affairs- unless it was related to the music or acting industry, well that was ok- it was important to know who married who or divorced.. I am now embarassed to say! I was a bit of an entertainment trivia encyclopaedia back in the day :-/

I now have to admit, I have turned into my parents, in more ways than one! Don't worry, I've noticed the same thing happening to Hubby too.

I blame some of my viewing choices also on my job.. Always on the lookout for ideas to use in the classroom. Being a science teacher I love to watch things like Catalyst, Mythbusters, New Inventors, Sleek Geeks. I also like watching Gruen, 4 Corners, Compass, Landline etc to keep on top of topical issues and share important stuff with students to help them become more discerning.

I am soooo thankful that I am working t a Christian school. Openly speaking about Jesus and the Bible is such a wonderful privilege. I continue to learn so much also from other staff and students alike. Just the other day at School, watching a student's Christian living presentation , "Would you watch a show, read a book, look at a picture, listen to music, if Jesus was in the room?"

What a fantastic way to measure our choices. It also says in the Bible, in Philippians 4:8-

Finally brothers, whatever is noble, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Amen!

What's new on Planet Gees??

Greetings my dears

Long time, no posting, I know... It's been rather a hectic, no, CRAZY few months. :-S

Don't really have time to go into details right this minute, so, here's the nutshell version-

~ Miss C, bless her cotton socks, felt it was necessary for my iPhone 3GS to go for a swim in the toilet (more on that later)

~ My Dad was hospitalised on his 71st birthday, 1300kms away in Far north QLD

~ last two weeks of Term 2 spent madly scrambling to locate suitable accommodation in the 'berg as well as trying to get NQ health professionals to communicate with counterparts down here (!!!)

~ duration of the Term 2 holidays was spent travelling to far NQ to pack and move Dad, take over his affairs as EPOA, set up in the new digs, find a new GP etc

~ turn around, scratch my head and BANG! The holidays are over and done with, hi-ho, it's back to work I go..

~ the whole family (except yours truly) comes down with a nasty cough/cold virus that just keeps hangin on forever..

~ Dad ends up in hospital  for five weeks for a number of reasons, one of which saw us awaiting an
aged care assessment for him...

~ My big girl turned 5 and I moved another step closer to middle age (what IS the official yard stick for middle age??)

~ did some furniture swapping and purging clutter (still more to do there!)

~ held TWO Tupperware parties!!!! Both a great success ;-)

~ Dad was FINALLY discharged home with services in place to help take the worry and pressure off
my shoulders a little.

~ went to a Graeme Connors concert for the first time- wow!

~ after twenty plus years, finally got the chance to spend some time with my Dad on my birthday AND Fathers Day. For the first time since Mum passed away, I feel so much more content now that my Dad is just a short drive down the road. Its like we can pick up where we left off so long ago. Praise God!

~ lots of laughter, grins and gritted teeth later, I'm here, looking forward to a quick break in the september holidays.

I will be back to fill in some of the gaps. In the mean time,
